WESTMINSTER, MD, JANUARY 21–Humane Society of Carroll County (HSCC), an animal welfare organization dedicated to compassionate treatment of animals through adoption, population control, education, and protection, today announced their Surgical Suite will officially open on Sunday, January 26th. Members of the media are invited to tour the facility beginning at 7:30 AM.
The surgical suite, which was made possible by the Board of Directors, will allow the Humane Society of Carroll County to perform spay and neuter surgeries in-house, rather than sending every animal out to local partners.
“We’re so excited for this new addition to our shelter,” said Michelle Fidler, director of animal care at HSCC. “Performing operations in-house will allow us to get animals adopted faster, which will free up space to rescue more animals.”
Dr. Sharon Kaschenbach of Green Acres Pet Center will conduct the first spay/neuter clinic in the new space on Sunday, January 26th. Members of the media are welcome to tour the clinic from 7:30 AM-8:00 AM. Email katie@ktworldcommunications.com to confirm your attendance.
The clinic is currently not open to the public, but executive director Karen Baker says they hope it will be soon.
“We’d love to provide lower-cost spay/neuter services to our community,” Baker said. “Once we clear our backlog of in-house animals and fosters, we will discuss how that might be possible.”
In 2024, the Humane Society of Carroll County spent $122,924.71 on spay and neuter surgeries. With a total of 5,033 animals taken in and a live release rate of 94%, the HSCC is proud to be an open-admission, no-kill shelter.
